About
JACK 96.9 (CJAX-FM) is the station you turn on without thinking when you get into your car. Rogers Sports & Media markets it with the slogan “We play what we want,” and for once, it actually feels true. It just works.
They play Adult Hits. While Rock 101 sticks to a tight classic rock list and 94.5 Virgin Radio chases current pop, JACK feels like a random throwback playlist from the MTV era. A riff from ZZ Top tracks right into Madonna, then skips to Nirvana or No Doubt. It is mostly '80s and '90s guitar pop and mainstream rock. No heavy metal, no depressing indie tracks—just familiar radio hits.
The best part of the station is the morning slot with Christy & Fraser. They do real local radio. They talk about the Lower Mainland, traffic on the Lions Gate Bridge, and local news without sounding like robots. If you miss the live broadcast, they put the highlights on the Seekr app.
Signal and Audience
The station is a staple for Vancouver offices. Numeris data shows it consistently leads in the 25–54 age bracket, meaning it is background noise for half the workplaces in the city. The transmitter sits on Mount Seymour, so the signal is strong. It stays clear whether you are driving past Abbotsford on Highway 1 or sitting on a ferry.
Editor’s Verdict
- Great for work: It blends into the background and doesn't distract you.
- Actually local: The hosts talk about Vancouver, not generic syndicated topics.
- Predictable: You always know exactly what kind of music you are going to get.
- The Loop: If you leave it on all day, you will notice the same songs repeating.
- Zero modern hits: Do not look for the 2026 charts here.
My experience: I left JACK 96.9 on for a solid four-hour stretch during a workday. The first two hours flew by—Christy & Fraser keep things moving, and hearing Bon Jovi followed by Alanis Morissette is great for a midday energy boost. But by hour three, the pattern shows. You realize their "we play what we want" library is still a standard radio automation wheel. I heard the same Green Day song twice before my shift ended. It’s perfect for a commute or a quick shop run, but if you keep it on from 9 to 5, you'll eventually want to plug in your phone.

Comments
- BevToo much repetition. So many beautiful songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's that we never hear anymore. It was music that had great musicians, singers and lyrics. I guess that you aren't aware of this music as you were not likely born yet and think that what you hear now is music.
