About

590 VOCM (VOCM-AM) is a commercial radio station in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, broadcasting on 590 AM. It first went on air on October 19, 1936. Operating with a full-service format, it offers a diverse mix of news, talk shows, country, pop, and classical music, with a strong focus on local programming. Notably, it is among the few Canadian stations with a call sign beginning with “VO,” a historical legacy from the era when Newfoundland was a separate dominion before joining Canada in 1949. Over the years, its format has shifted through country, soft adult contemporary, and classic hits. A long-standing tradition is the seasonal switch to Christmas programming from late November until New Year’s Day, paired with the community-driven Dial-a-Carol fundraiser supporting the VOCM Cares Foundation. With its deep roots and strong community ties, 590 VOCM remains a staple voice in Newfoundland radio.

Listening from the North Coast of New York State. Just stumbled across this online radio Canada player and found this station. Good selection of tunes and I can listen online. Listen to a few Toronto stations over the air broadcasts but when the reception is bad online listening is only available to persons in Canada. That also means my cousin from Kelowna, BC who currently resides in Poland can't listen either. Hope you get those fires out soon, we're choking on your smoke down here.
