About

Classical 96.3 (CFMZ-FM) is a commercial radio station based in Toronto, Ontario. It broadcasts on 96.3 FM across the Greater Toronto Area, with The Classical FM network also serving Eastern Ontario on 103.1 FM (Cobourg) and South Georgian Bay on 102.9 FM (Collingwood). Owned by Moses Znaimer’s ZoomerMedia Limited, the station first took to the airwaves in 1988 and relaunched in 2008. Today, it stands as Canada’s only commercial English-language classical station.

Music Without Elitism

Living by the motto “Beautiful Music For A Crazy World,” this station is built for those seeking harmony and a quiet refuge from everyday noise. You won’t find loud commercials or jarring sounds here.

The playlist is curated with a deep understanding of the listener. It goes far beyond Mozart and Bach, casually weaving in themes from the Super Mario video game, film scores, and Maori folk music. The station also regularly highlights Canadian artists, such as guitarist Liona Boyd.

A Human Touch on Air

What truly sets this station apart is its hosts—they are accomplished musicians who bring genuine warmth to the mic. The morning show, Classical Mornings, is hosted by opera star Jean Stilwell, who fills the early hours with gentle humour and light quizzes.

Middays are helmed by concert pianist Daniel Vnukowski on The Jukebox, where he takes listener requests and occasionally plays the piano live in the studio. In the evenings, actress Marilyn Lightstone reads poetry set to soothing classical pieces on Nocturne.

A Live Concert Venue

The station boasts its own 100+ seat venue, Zoomer Hall, at its Toronto headquarters. The team regularly hosts free live performances for a studio audience and broadcasts them directly over the airwaves.

According to ZoomerMedia data citing Numeris reports, over 600,000 listeners tune in to 96.3 FM every week. It is a rare example of a station that manages to be intelligent, alive, and truly heartfelt all at once.
