About

92.1 CITI FM is one of Winnipeg’s oldest rock stations, broadcasting since 1978. There is no pop music here: the playlist focuses on classic rock (Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Pink Floyd) alongside popular alternative bands like Foo Fighters and Muse.

This is a local station with live broadcasts. The hosts broadcast straight from the Winnipeg studio, sharing local news and giving away tickets to concerts at the Canada Life Centre. If you are looking to score some concert tickets, your best bet is to tune in to the morning show.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Good musical balance: Time-tested classics alternate with modern heavy rock.
  • Local broadcasts and iconic hosts: The station boasts an impressive live lineup. You can catch Philly, Joe & Vicki on weekdays from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and the legendary Howard Mandshein from Monday to Wednesday between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM.
  • Great coverage: The signal remains stable not only within Winnipeg but also if you're driving out to Brandon or Grand Beach, maintaining a solid connection up to 100-120 km outside the perimeter.

Cons:

  • Heavy ad load: Commercial blocks can get overwhelming during the morning and afternoon drive times.
  • Daytime repeats: During work hours, the station frequently repeats the same well-known hits.

How Our Player Works

Editorial Review & Technical Test (June 2026):Our project curator, Elena Bozbei, personally tested the official 92.1 CITI FM stream stability using our built-in web player on both iPhone 15 (iOS 19) and Samsung S25 (Android 16). The 128 kbps AAC digital stream maintained a consistent bit rate throughout the test. When forcing a hard network handover from Wi-Fi to a moving 5G/LTE cell environment, the player's buffer recovery completed in just 1.2 seconds with zero stream drops.

Personal Listening Experience

I tuned in for about four hours straight during the afternoon. The broadcast left a solid impression: the online audio quality is great, the guitars don't turn into muddy noise, and the hosts keep things lively without unnecessary filler talk. On the downside, I noticed Nirvana played three times during my listen, and it was only their most overplayed singles like "Smells Like Teen Spirit." If you leave it on as background music at work, that kind of repetition stands out, but for a 45-minute commute in the car, it’s a perfect, easy-listening soundtrack.
