About

CTBC Tamil Radio is a digital online station based in Toronto, Ontario, founded in 1995–1996 by Kandiah Sivasothy under the CTBC Radio Network. It serves as a core media outlet for the local Tamil community. Rather than relying purely on background programming, the station focuses heavily on live talk radio, featuring frequent call-ins where listeners discuss immigration, settlement, legal matters, and daily life in Canada.

The music rotation flows smoothly without abrupt genre shifts. The playlist highlights Kollywood film soundtracks, tracks by Ilaiyaraaja and A. R. Rahman, and gentle folk melodies. The tracks complement the spoken-word segments without overpowering them.

Unlike global broadcasters such as IBC Tamil or Sooriyan FM, the project focuses strictly on the Canadian diaspora, which includes over 150,000 residents in the Greater Toronto Area. While the station is recognized in public CRTC filings, it operates without a traditional FM frequency, broadcasting exclusively as a digital web stream.
