CHIN Radio 1540

CHIN Radio 1540 (CHIN-AM) is a Toronto-based multilingual station that has been serving the city’s diverse cultural communities since its launch on June 6, 1966. Operated by Radio 1540 Limited under CHIN Radio/TV International, founded by Johnny Lombardi and James Ditson Service, the station has long been a platform for voices from more than 30 languages. Traditionally featuring Cantonese, Mandarin, and Portuguese programs during the day, the lineup shifted in 2024, with Chinese-language shows moving to CHIN’s FM channels, while AM 1540 now focuses primarily on Italian content. Sundays bring variety with Jewish, Polish, Serbian, and other community programming, as well as a live church service from Timothy Eaton Memorial Church.

From its earliest days, CHIN Radio 1540 has played a vital role in fostering multiculturalism in Canada and continues to be a voice for Toronto’s ethnic communities.
